Why should I accept the fact that it is okay to use pre-made CMS?
Posted by: | Commentswordpress design Question: Why should I accept the fact that it is okay to use pre-made CMS?
I dislike how many websites look the same, and seeing a website made out of WordPress/Joomla/Drupal is so obvious. I’ve adapted to a principle that developing a content management system from scratch is better insofar as there is much much more freedom in design. Why should one opt for pre-mace CMS? I’ve come to believe that they are something for lazy people, or people who don’t know how to develop a CMS by themselves.

Good on you…Whilst I reckon they are handy for people simply wanting to create a “McWebsite” as a professional, freelancer, etc there’s absolutely no substitute for being competent in creating applications such as a CMS from your own initiative.

Well, I had a look at your page, the yellow space isn’t bad.. But you’re right it gonna be better if it filled with something.. Thinking in the standard way, you can just put shortcuts (links) for other areas of your page so that the viewer don’t have to scroll down to find them.. May be also you can provide your website with a “website map”, or to provide a search engine exploring your website that makes surfing easier and faster.. If you go through this line of thinking you gonna find much more ideas than the ones I mentioned.
However, personally I prefer utilizing the yellow space in artistic way.. If you’re interested just e-mail me dick.hardy@yahoo.com and we can talk about it..

What is the best program to use when building an ecommerce website?
Posted by: | Commentswordpress design Question: What is the best program to use when building an ecommerce website?
I’ve been told Magneto is a good program, as well as wordpress. What is the best program to use? Keep in mind that I have a budget of about 5k to design this site and want the most bang for my buck. Any advice is welcome, thanks!

WordPress is more designed as content management. It might not work that wel for commerce.
You might want to have a look at Joomla. They have a free 30 day trial and some of their plug ins are premium options so you get customer support with them.
