wordpress design Question: Can I Change the footer of the Free WordPress Theme?
I’ve downloaded a free 3 column wordpress theme and I’ve change the design and feel of the theme, I would like to offer this theme for free download but can i change the footer of the theme? That is a copy right message inside the footer file: WARNING: *This file is protected by copyright law. To reverse engineer or decode this file is strictly prohibited. */

I only remain the 3 column layout of the theme but already change all the image and design in the theme, in this case can I change the footer?

Absolutely NOT! Incidentally, that is what the warning says.

Changing the colors/graphics does not mean the theme is yours. Make your own wordpress theme, and offer that for download. There are plenty of tutorials on how to make one based on the classic theme.

wordpress design Question: WordPress for MY website…?
Hi! I’m new to wordpress (VERY new) but NOT so new to web design… I have my own website & I want to use WordPress for its comment feature… How do I “hook it up” to my website?
If I downloaded the file of stuff to upload to my webhost, how do I use “that stuff” to make the thing post directly to my website?

theres a few ways

you can setup a link from your site to the wordpress blog – people then post the comment and you add an rss feed to worpress and get your site to subscribe then add the rss feed to the home page so you can show as many recent comments as you want.

wordpress design Question: Want to build a commercial website. Can anyone recommend a wordpress theme (read requirements carefully)?
I would like to build a fairly simple, yet attractive, commercial site using wordpress.

I’ve had a go at designing the site using a crappy online WYSIWYG editor that came with my GoDaddy domain registration, but it seems able to do about four-fifths of nothing.

I have a very specific idea of what I want, and this is absolutely key to which template you recommend.

I want a 1000-pixel wide working area, with a tarditional 1000-pixel wide logo (which I’ll design) and left-right menu bar underneath it. So far so easy.

Here’s where I’m a bit stumped: Below this, I’d like the background of the site to be a B&W picture of my choosing, (which will only act, really, as partly-visible background texture behind the text boxes overlaying it). Over this, and occupying most of the the left half of the screen, I’d like to overlay a solid black text box with *rounded corners*, (in which I will write in with white text). There should be a fair bit of room around the edge of this text box, so you can see a suggestion of the image behind.

I’d like the whole site follow this model, though though I’d like to have the option of filling the right hand side of the screen with an identically-shaped box filled, edge-to-edge with an image of my choosing. If that image could be a rotation of images, even better.

So far, from what I’ve seen, the WordPress templates don’t seem particularly flexible. I’d settle for a ready-made template that looked like this. Frankly I’m stumped, and I’m no website designer.

That said, I’m no dunce, technically. I simply don’t have time to learn to code, and want a quick-and-dirty solution to what I’m trying to do.

Hi Pezmond,

What you are describing is web technique, but if you don’t have those skills then i would suggest you get a template made for you that you can just load into wordpress.

I would try elance.com where you will find people there that can do the work for you.

Hope this helps

You can (I wouldn’t recommend it though), and you cannot use any of the frontpage components.

To make your own theme you do need to know some php, html, css and you also need to know how wordpress works.

The first 2 links are kind of old but they give you what you need to do.

wordpress design Question: Using wordpress, own domain & host?
Am I able to use wordpress to edit and add new posts etc etc to my blog, but have my own domain and host?
There are a couple of websites that do this, but I’d like to know how. I know of some domain and host websites, but I’d like to know how to get the 3 to communicate. I have a wordpress blog, I want to make my own design and then use my own domain and my own host. can I do this? If so, how do I get the 3 to communicate. Thanks for your help! ;)

To take all the hassle out of it I suggest you have a look at http://www.hosting24.com.

They have got a great wizard for setting up your site and include WordPress as part of the Fantastico collection.

Also when you sign up with them if you enter in a discount code they will give you 25% off their ridiculously cheap hosting plans. code to use is 25OFF

I host all my sites there and have been more than pleased with their help and support which is available by phone support! I hope this helps
