Can I change the header image per category on a wordpress theme?
Posted by: | Commentswordpress theme Question: Can I change the header image per category on a wordpress theme?
I have a blog that has a lot of different categories to it, and I wanted to make the header image change depending on the category. I’m using a pre-made theme that allows for the header image to change randomly, but there’s no way to be specific about when to change the header image. Does anyone know how to do this?
P.S., if you can find step by step details, I would very much appreciate it.

Would you be able to post the PHP code of that pre-made random header image changer? And if you can post the code that handles the category. You might be able to hard-code it to pick a certain image depending on the category. Something like:
[pseudocode]
if category is computers, use netbook_image.jpg for header
else if category is autos, use ferrari_image.jpg for header
else if category is health, use yoga_image.jpg for header
etc
A step-by-step instructions how to change the look and design of your wordpress website.

WP e-Commerce themes are not the same as WordPress Themes. You can edit the WordPress theme files with the editor under the Appearance panel but the WP E Commerce themes are edited with the editor under the Plugins panel.
New Theme: Pilcrow
Posted by: | CommentsNew Theme: Pilcrow
If you want a simple and clean blog theme that you can customize to suit your needs I think you’ll like the one we’re introducing today. It’s called Pilcrow.
The Pilcrow Themes default look
Pilcrow is an upgrade to the older PressRow theme we’ll begin phasing out next week. But Pilcrow isn’t just a simple replacement. We’ve pulled out all the stops to make sure it’s a better theme all around.
Pilcrow keeps the familiar, simple and clean PressRow look but we’ve expanded its basic design over six possible layouts and up to four sidebars and widget areas. The choice of theme layout is all yours.
Pilcrows six possible layouts
In addition to multiple layouts you also have your choice of four different color schemes, light, dark, red, and brown. If you visit Appearance → Background you can customize the background of any of the color schemes and upload your own custom background image.
Pilcrow with the three-column layout, brown color scheme, hidden header image, and a custom background
Pilcrow also has a fully customizable header. From Appearance → Header you can upload your own header image, change the header text color, or even choose to hide the header text altogether. If you want a special header image for a particular post or page, you can upload a Featured Image from the post and page edit screens!
The Pilcrow theme is available today in Appearance → Themes and will soon be available in the WordPress Themes Directory, for self-hosted WordPress.org users.
- The main column width is 500 except in the full-width layout where it’s 990.
- The custom header dimensions are 770 by 200 for two-column and 990 by 257 for wide layouts.
- The sidebar width is 230.
- The secondary sidebar width in 3-column layouts is 180 and both sidebars are 205 where there is a sidebar on either side of the content.
Making Websites for Free with WordPress

Making websites for free with WordPress is as easy as 1, 2, 3. All you do is go to wordpress.com, complete the easy signup form and click on the activation link in the email that they’ll send you.
Within seconds you’ll have a blog ready set up. Making websites for free doesn’t get easier than this and this is what you get:
Over 75 lovely themes to choose from with a range of different focuses. You can switch between them with one click and each one allows for the customisation of your sidebar with widgets and some let you upload your own header image. If you’re a CSS wizz, you can change your CSS code to suit yourself too.
Writing posts couldn’t be easier and you needn’t worry about losing your work because it’s continuously saved. You can include photos and Utube videos too.
When you add tags to your posts they’ll be added to the WordPress tag system which will drive traffic to your posts from the WordPress community.
Spam won’t be a problem because Akismet will be embedded in your blog and it prevents spammers from leaving comments on your blog.
Wordpress not only enables making websites for free but it provide you with stats on traffic to your blog and where it comes from, the popularity of your posts and which search terms are finding you.
There’s a support team at your disposal as well as extensive documentation and a user forum where you can get help
With the numerous and powerful servers at WordPress, you needn’t worry about your blog seizing up if you suddenly get loads of visitors of if there’s a power outage somewhere.
Making websites for free is all very well but there are a few things that you don’t get that you would get if you had your own hosting. Obviously, one is the total control of your site including the ability to edit the code of your theme. Another, which for me is most important, is that you don’t get to have all those amazing plugins which add all those little extras to your site.
Personally I prefer to self host WordPress and if you’re a member of Wealthy Affiliate you get hosting included in the package. On top of that they have WordPress Express which enables you to build a blog in about one minute.
