How do I get this WordPress theme to work?

I have recently downloaded the States theme for WordPress. I have a hosting account with Justfree.com (if that matters to my question). I uploaded all of the .php and .css files into the correct folder (I think). When I log into my WordPress panel, I can see an empty box in the themes that says States 1.3 above it. When I select this theme, and click “view my site”, I get a message that says: Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_front_page() in /jotun1/justfree.com/t/i/g/tiger50/htdocs/wordpress/wp-content/themes/States/header.php on line 58
What can I do to fix this? Should I also upload the .jpg and .png files that came with the theme? Please help me fix this problem and get my site working! Thanks!

Yes, you need to upload the graphics that came with the theme. And check wp-includes to make sure query.php is there. (In general, you have to duplicate the directory structure of the theme files as downloaded underneath wp-content/themes/themename.)

ok i know how to build a wordpress template (header.php, index.php, and style.css, etc.) and use gimp/photoshop
but i’m no designer
so my question is how do i design a wordpress theme that looks warm and cozy
like i want warm color scheme and everything

Yes, I think I know what you mean but it is a big subject to answer here. You can take a look at this website: http://www.smashingmagazine.com/ They have a few posts about WordPress templates and you may get some ideas.

Keep in mind i know little to nothing about wordpress, web design etc. I chose a random theme to work with that id like to stay with if possible cause it fits my business. this is the site:

i do not know how to get rid of that ‘home’ tab. i know how to add tabs (pages) but i cant get rid of that first one. id keep it there if i could figure out how to put content onto it but its not a ‘page’ thats showing in my dashboard.

you need to go into
Appearance > editor > header.php and remove the listing of the home link in the nav menu.
If none of this makes sense, search the WordPress codex for detailed instructions.
It looks to me that you need to hire someone experienced to get this styled for you.

I need to change the logo size to make it larger, but cannot figure out where to do this. I have review the code a bit, and though I haven’tt done this in a long time, I have a general idea of what to look for. I guess I’m looking for the wrong things. Any assistance would be appreciated.
